Care Instructions
Good garment care can help keep your clothes in good condition for longer.
Different fibres, fabrics and products may require different care, so always check the product-specific care label first. The instructions on the garment label take precedence over the general guidance below.
Washing only when necessary, treating stains promptly and using suitable washing and drying methods can also reduce unnecessary wear on the garment.
Here are eight practical steps for taking care of your clothes.
1. Treat stains as soon as possible
If a garment gets stained, treat the affected area as soon as reasonably possible.
Start with the gentlest method suitable for the fabric. In many cases, rinsing with cool or lukewarm water and using a small amount of suitable stain remover or laundry soap is enough.
Avoid rubbing delicate fabrics aggressively, as this can damage the surface or spread the stain.
Always check the product's care instructions before using stain removers or other treatments, and test unfamiliar products on an inconspicuous area first.
For odours, airing the garment may be enough instead of washing the entire item.
2. Wash only when needed
Not every garment needs to be machine washed after every use.
If the garment is not visibly dirty, airing it between wears may be sufficient.
Reducing unnecessary washing can help limit mechanical wear and keep the garment looking good for longer.
Items worn directly against the skin, such as underwear and socks, naturally require more frequent washing.
3. Use the right detergent and dosage
Choose a detergent that is suitable for the garment, washing temperature and type of washing machine.
Follow the detergent manufacturer's dosage instructions. Using more detergent than necessary does not necessarily improve the wash result and may leave residue on garments or inside the washing machine.
If you have sensitive skin or prefer fragrance-free products, choose a detergent that suits your needs.
Avoid mixing different cleaning agents unless the manufacturers specifically state that they can be used together.
4. Follow the temperature shown on the care label
Always use the washing temperature stated on the garment's care label.
A lower temperature may be suitable when the care label allows it and the garment is only lightly soiled.
Do not assume that every Pure Waste product can be washed at the same temperature. Different garments, accessories and materials may have different care requirements.
Turning garments inside out before washing can help protect printed surfaces and the outer surface of the fabric.
5. Reduce synthetic fibre shedding when washing
Products containing synthetic fibres such as polyester can release small fibres during washing and use.
Wash synthetic garments only when needed and follow the care instructions provided for the product.
Where appropriate, a microfibre-filtering laundry bag or a washing-machine filter designed to capture fibres can also be used.
Avoid overloading or underloading the washing machine and follow the appliance manufacturer's instructions.
6. Air dry when appropriate and refresh between washes
Follow the garment's care label when drying.
When tumble drying is not required or recommended, air drying can be a suitable option.
Reshape garments gently after washing and dry them in a way that supports their shape.
Some garments can also be refreshed between washes by airing or steaming them, provided the material and care instructions allow steaming.
Take extra care with prints, trims and heat-sensitive materials.
7. Keep the care and fibre labels
We recommend keeping the garment's care and fibre-content labels attached where possible.
They provide useful information about:
- fibre composition
- washing
- drying
- ironing
- professional cleaning.
This information can also be useful later when deciding how to repair, resell, donate or recycle the garment.
If a label causes discomfort and you decide to remove it, consider keeping the information for future reference.
8. Take care of your washing machine
A clean and properly maintained washing machine helps achieve consistent washing results.
Follow the washing-machine manufacturer's maintenance instructions.
General maintenance may include:
- leaving the door and detergent drawer open after washing so they can dry
- cleaning the detergent drawer regularly
- cleaning filters according to the manufacturer's instructions
- checking the door seal for lint and residue
- running the manufacturer's recommended maintenance or cleaning cycle when needed.
Avoid using cleaning substances or concentrations that are not recommended by the appliance manufacturer.
