Robert Nilsson - HelsinkiMissio

“Mielestäni Pure Waste on unelmien yhteistyökumppani. Pure Wastella on vahva kierrätysideologia, jonka moni jakaa tänä päivänä.

Jokainen meistä tarvitsee ystävää — ihan joka päivä - Each one of us needs a friend — every single day

Each one of us needs a friend — every single day

Let’s help each other together. We think St Valentine’s Day, or “friend day” as we call it in Finnish, should be every day. Everyone needs a friend, especially in unusual times like this.

We want to make our own contribution, so we’re donating 10% of all of our proceeds from sales online and in our Pure Waste Concept Store between 1 and 14 February to HelsinkiMissio, which works to fight loneliness among the elderly and youth. We think that HelsinkiMissio does great work to combat and prevent loneliness. We think that this is an important task, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Too many of us don’t have a single friend, and up to one in five of us suffers from loneliness at some point of our lives. Young people, families with children and senior citizens all suffer from loneliness.

Many of us saw our daily lives change when the pandemic began. Some people lost their jobs entirely, and many started working from home. Belonging to groups at work, school or hobbies creates a sense of community, and now these encounters are rare. Because of this, during the COVID-19 pandemic, many people have been forced to face loneliness and understand it better. How then can people deal with the loneliness caused by the pandemic? Robert Nilsson of HelsinkiMissio thinks people should come together to do so.

“I might be an idealist but I believe in working together. In all aspects. I think that one thing that coronavirus has shown is that many people are willing to help others and each other. And sometimes it is the ‘small’ things that really make a difference.
Making a phone call to a friend, a relative or maybe volunteering at an organization and calling someone you don´t know. For many, the step to actually seek help and someone to talk to, is a big step to take. So, one thing we all could do is to help spread the word that it is OK to seek help. In fact, it is wise to seek help and support.”

Robert Nilsson - HelsinkiMissio

HelsinkiMissio works with people of all ages. The organization offers counselling services, support groups, support people and many different ways for people to find help for their everyday lives. Because of the pandemic, HelsinkiMissio also currently offers these services by phone and video call. The organization wants to reduce loneliness and, through that, increase people’s welfare by ensuring that all people are met with empathy.

“For me, Pure Waste is a dream partner. Pure Waste has a strong recycling ideal, something that many people share today. That includes me and HelsinkiMissio. Another thing is that Pure Waste is, in my opinion, a real ‘doer’. Pure Waste, to put it another way, don’t just talk the talk. They walk the walk. To start cooperating with a brand as active as Pure Waste is exciting,” Robert Nilsson says.

We are all in the same boat, but we all experience the challenges of these unusual times differently. Each one of us can help each other and have a positive effect on each other’s lives through small actions.
