Pure Waste lainausklubi – arkivaatteet lainaamalla!

  • Lainaamalla saa vaihtelua vaatekaappiin ekologisesti

Kuinka saamme toiminnasta kannattavaa on erittäin relevantti kysymys mikäli haluamme jatkossakin pysyä pystyssä, maksaa henkilöstölle palkkaa ja pyrkiä tekemään muutosta alallamme.

Innosta puhkuen lähdemme tähän kevään pilottiin ja toivomme innon tarttuvan mahdollisimman moneen teistä! Mikäli Pure Waste lainausklubi kiinnostaa, niin lue lisää täältä.

Pure Waste Borrowing Club: borrow clothes for everyday wear!

Suit hire businesses and garment borrowing have been common in Finland for a while now. That said, it is mostly more valuable items such as wedding dresses, men’s suits and prom clothes that have been rented. Alongside traditional hire businesses, garment lending, operating on a membership principle, has appeared on the field in recent years. Owning clothes is no longer the only option, even though it is overwhelmingly the most popular one. Service formats have made a breakthrough in many other industrial sectors across the board — music is one example. How many people still buy music on LP or CD?

Clothes cannot yet be turned into a digital form as music can, but there’s probably a lot of work to be done in this industry, too, to change the current situation. Our aim is to inspire both consumers and the textile industry to make more ecological choices, and we want to think about issues from as many perspectives as possible, not just that of material. From the ecological material perspective, we have already come a long way, but the entire business could be rethought from a totally new angle. Does everyone have to own the content of their wardrobe? How could we as consumers benefit from giving up the ownership of our clothes? We’ve long dreamt of offering daily wear hire, we’ve done preliminary testing, and now we are delighted to have reached the point where we can pilot the service this spring, for three months starting in March.

How do consumers benefit from borrowing clothes? We’ve thought about this both alone and with other industry experts and come up with several possible benefits. Now we just have to test how close to the truth we’ve come! The benefits of borrowing could include:

  • When you borrow a garment, you can try it on first and avoid buyer’s remorse
  • Borrowing allows you to spice up your wardrobe in an environmentally friendly way
  • When you borrow, you are not burdened with the obligation to buy, nor do you have to think about where to dispose the garment when you no longer need it
  • Borrowed clothes are worn efficiently, instead of sitting at the bottom of a wardrobe for years

We’ve thought about the issue from many perspectives, and even though we do not yet have answers to every question, we believe that borrowing also has a lot of benefits from our perspective. We believe that lending will give us a lot of information about the quality and durability of products and materials. With time, we can calculate the service life of products and see in practice how our materials withstand time and use. For us it’s important that our products re-enter the cycle post-use. A garment we lend is more likely to be recycled and thus continue to be useful than a bought garment. This is because we will hold on to it and we know best what materials the product is made from and how it should be treated.

There are many things about lending that give us pause for thought. How can the service be made as easy to use and smooth as possible? Nothing is more irritating than a service that makes life more difficult — why would anyone start using something like that? It is also important that the service is truly an ecological alternative to buying. If products are shipped back and forth, it’s clearly not very environmentally friendly. And are consumers ready for the change in buying? To work, this business model, too, requires enough interested consumers who have shifted their thinking from buying to borrowing. How can we make it profitable is an extremely relevant question if we want to stay in business in the future, pay our employees’ wages and try to make a change in our industry.

We’re launching this pilot full of excitement this spring and we hope the excitement will rub off on as many of you as possible! If you’re interested in the Pure Waste Borrowing Club, read more here.
